GeoKiln consists of a team with 160+ years of experience from the oil and gas industry, bringing their hands-on expertise with subsurface heating technologies from lab to full commercial scale.
GeoKiln grew out of a simple conviction: that the oil and gas industry, for all its challenges, already held the key to clean hydrogen. Our founders had spent careers there. They knew the geology. They decided to use it differently.
The move for our founders happened early in 2023, after a long conversation about why every "green" hydrogen project we'd seen was either unbankable, unbuildable, or both. The question that came out of that night was simple: if the Earth already provides the heat and the vessel, why are we building those above ground?
Eighteen months later we had a lab proof, a patent filing, and a company.
A century of subsurface expertise already exists. Our job is to point it at a new geology, not to rebuild the industry from scratch.
Clean hydrogen has to win on price, not virtue. We benchmark against the dirtiest hydrogen on the market — and we plan to beat it.
Standard rigs, standard crews, standard logistics. The novelty is in the chemistry, not the spectacle. Solving for delivering hydrogen at scale — and scale is the only thing that moves the climate needle.
Subsurface hydrogen doesn't yield to one type of thinker. We hire for the perspective the others don't have — geology, drilling, chemistry, software, the field — and we make room for people to disagree. The breakthroughs are usually quiet, and usually come from whoever wasn't supposed to be talking.
